Eligibility for benefits is based on your job group, your appointment percentage and the length of your appointment.
The College offers two plans through the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System which includes a 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan with 4 years vesting or a Pension Plus plan with 10 years vesting.
For eligible employees, the college also offers a generous contribution to salaried and full-time faculty employees for the 401(a) Optional Retirement Plan, with the option to save more through a 403(b) Supplemental Retirement Account (SRA) via TIAA.
As an employee, you have immediate access to health insurance and prescription drug coverage beginning on your first day of employment. The college regularly reviews all plans to ensure quality and value.
Bay College offers a choice among several plans and plan types, including a high health deductible plan option which can also be paired with a Health Savings Account (HSA). Coverage also is available for dependents who meet age and other guidelines.
Employees also have the opportunity to pair some plans with a pre-tax healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
Bay College offers $2,100 annual opt out should someone have other health insurance through their spouse or another employer.

A FREE Northern Lights YMCA membership is offered to all eligible staff with the option to extend to dependents for a discounted fee.
Generous paid time off for vacation, holidays, and sick time, as well as a modified summer schedule. The amount of time you accrue is based on your position and length of service.
The College recognizes the following holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Martin Luther King Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day and the following day
- Christmas Day and the preceding day
- Floating Holiday (Determined by employee)
- Starting at the end of May through July, employees work longer days on Monday –
- Thursday, and have Friday off.
