Penney Parmet began as an adjunct instructor at Bay College in 2011. She teaches classes in Interpersonal Communication, Exploring Teaching and Educational Psychology. In addition to her work with students at Bay College, Penney is also an English/Language Arts and Academic Success teacher and mentor with the Upper Peninsula Virtual Academy online school for grades K-12. In addition, she is a Mentor Leader for the Michigan Virtual program with the State of Michigan. Penney began teaching in 1974 and during that time she has taught at the elementary, middle school, high school, undergraduate and graduate college levels. She graduated from Arcadia University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a minor in Sociology/Communication. Her Master’s degree is also from Arcadia University with a major in Education, a minor in Reading/Language Arts and a Reading Specialist Certification. She completed her doctoral classes and exams in Reading/Language Arts at the University of Pennsylvania and is an ABD from that program. She holds current Professional Education Certification with the State of Michigan in Teaching K-8 and as a Reading Specialist K-12. Penney’s past positions include: online instruction with Central Michigan University’s Center for Clinical Experiences for pre-service teachers; 15 years as North Central Area School District Title I Director, DIBELS Coordinator, Comprehensive School Reform Coordinator, Comprehensive Needs Assessment Director, MEAP Analysis and State Standards Alignment Coordinator, Facilitator for Comprehensive School Reform Benchmarks and schoolwide Continuing Education Director and documentation coordinator; Instructor with the University of Pennsylvania Reading Improvement Service; Instructor with the LaSalle College Academic Discovery Program for continuing education for women; Instructor at Lindenwood University in the Graduate School of Education teaching courses in Honors Developmental Reading, Reading Diagnosis, and Honors Interpersonal Communication; Instructor at Arcadia University Graduate School of Education teaching courses in Developmental Reading, Individualized Reading Instruction, and Diagnosis and Adjustment of Reading Difficulties; Instructor and Chair at Peirce College-Liberal Arts Division, teaching classes in Reading & Study Skills, Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Psychology, Interpersonal Communication, and Psychology of Human Relations; and English and Reading teacher grades 9-12 with Red Bud Community schools. Penney has served as a Board Member for: Michigan Works! Job Force Career Connections Group, Middle Bucks Institute of Technology, Menominee County and Delta County “Great Parents Great Start”.
